Tra Que at a glance
Tra Que is a vegetable and herb village east of Hoi An old town, on the Co Co River. The national tourism website places it about 3 km (1.9 mi) from the old town and still uses the older address Cam Ha. A 2026 article names Hoi An Tay ward in Da Nang as the administration in charge today, so you may see either name on maps and booking pages.
It is a different place from the Cam Thanh coconut forest, which lies on the other side of Hoi An. Tra Que is about fields, gardens and cooking. The coconut forest is about boats and canals. Many visitors combine the two on one day, usually on a bike ride (see our bike tour guide).

What farming looks like here
The national tourism authority describes crop rotation, mixed planting, leafy greens and herbs, and fertilizing with material taken from the river. Gardening and cooking workshops are listed as experiences for visitors. That does not make the produce certified organic, so do not rely on that label.
Most of the land belongs to families who work it. Fields and gardens are not an open park, so walk where you are shown and ask before you step into a bed or take close photos of people at work. Sources give different figures for the cultivated area, so treat any single number for the size of the village with caution.
The UN Tourism Best Tourism Villages list named Tra Que in 2024. It is a recognition of rural tourism, not a UNESCO World Heritage listing.

Ways to visit Tra Que
You can walk in on your own, join a bike tour or book a class that includes a garden walk.
On your own
Entry is listed at VND 35,000 per visitor and day by a 2026 journal article and by an airline travel guide. That is a published guide figure, not a fee schedule we can confirm. Opening hours, rest days, parking and a separate rate for people passing through by bike are not published, so check at the entrance.
With a bike tour
Several half-day rides pass through the village on the way to the coconut forest. One operator lists Tra Que as a stop on a 17 km (10.6 mi) route with a basket boat ride at the end.
With a cooking class
Classes in or near the village combine a garden visit with a lesson. The next section compares three listed offers.
With a local guide
A guide can explain the crops and introduce you to a grower. Ask your hotel or an operator what is included before you agree on a price.
Cooking classes in Tra Que compared
Published offers from three operators in 2026. They are not a promise of availability for your date.
| Operator | Price | Time | Group size | What the listing says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kumquat, group class with market | USD 28 per person | Market at 9:30 am | 2 to 12 | Spring rolls, rice pancake, caramelized pork or chicken in a clay pot, lemongrass chicken |
| Kumquat, group class without market | USD 22 per person | 11:00 am or 5:00 pm | 2 to 12 | Private class costs USD 7 more per person |
| Maison Fleur, Tra Que vegetable farm class | USD 25 | 3 to 4 hours, start 10:00 am or 3:00 pm | โ | Herbal drink, garden tour, 4 dishes, foot massage, no boat |
| Tra Que Water Wheel | โ | โ | 2 adults minimum, 6 people maximum per class | Classes in English, private groups on request |
The Kumquat booking form showed a total that did not match the listed price, so confirm the final amount before you pay. Child rates at Tra Que Water Wheel are shown differently on different pages, so ask for the age limits in writing. Vegetarian or allergy-friendly menus are not promised by any of these listings. For classes that start with a market and end on a boat, see our cooking class guide.
Temple and village walks
There is a small village temple among the gardens. Dress modestly if you step in, keep your voice down and ask before photographing people or the altar. Do not photograph children without the parents agreeing.
Raised beds, herb gardens and houses sit close together, and the paths between them are narrow. Bring a hat, water and shoes you do not mind getting muddy. In the rainy months paths can be wet or flooded, so keep your plans flexible.

When to go
The national tourism site recommends February to April and September to December. The second window overlaps the wettest months of the Da Nang climate record (1991 to 2020), which is the nearest station and not a forecast for Tra Que. Da Nang averages 22 mm (0.9 in) of rain in February and 50 mm (2 in) in April, against 394 mm (15.5 in) in September and 658 mm (26 in) in October.
February to April is cooler and drier than the summer months, with average highs of 79 to 88ยฐF (26 to 31ยฐC). Autumn can be green and quiet, but plan for rain and ask about conditions on the day. Early morning and late afternoon are easier for walking in the fields than midday.

Getting there from Hoi An
Tra Que lies a short ride from the old town, so a bicycle, a taxi or a ride-hailing car all work. The ride along small roads and rice fields is part of the appeal. Grab lists Hoi An as a service area, but we have no fixed fare for this trip, so check the price in the app and arrange your return before you set off.
Pair Tra Que with the coconut forest on the same day in our basket boat guide, or start from the Cam Thanh overview. For the town itself, read the Hoi An old town guide. Weather by month for the region is covered at Hoi An weather.
