“The Happiness Shop” – Where Resilience Tells the Story of Regenerative Tourism

At Cam Thanh Nipa Palm Forest, Hoi An Dong Ward, there is a small yet inspiring space known as the “Happiness Shop”, founded by Ms. Le Thao Vy, a native of Cam Thanh. Located in the Vong Nhi area, the “Happiness Shop” is not only a destination for visitors interested in handcrafted recycled products, but also a humane community-oriented model that promotes sharing values and creates opportunities for disadvantaged groups.

Established in 2022, the “Happiness Shop” brings together local women who are passionate about sewing and persons with disabilities in the community. A distinctive feature of this model is its use of fabric scraps collected from garment workshops in Hoi An to create unique recycled souvenirs such as fabric bags, keychains, and decorative items. Each handcrafted product not only gives new life to surplus materials from the garment industry, but also expresses stories of perseverance, creativity, and resilience from the people who make them.

Beyond product creation, the “Happiness Shop” also organizes hands-on workshops on recycled fabric crafts for visitors, students, and the local community. Through these activities, participants are guided by members of the “Happiness Shop” to create their own handmade products while gaining a deeper understanding of recycling practices, environmental protection, and social inclusion. These meaningful experiences have transformed the “Happiness Shop” into an interactive space where tourism is closely connected with humane and inspiring experiences.

More importantly, the model has generated stable income opportunities for its members, especially persons with disabilities, enabling them to gain greater confidence in life and gradually affirm their self-worth. At the same time, the shop has contributed to raising community awareness, narrowing social gaps, and spreading a spirit of compassion and inclusion.

Amid the daily rhythm of Hoi An – a major tourism center in Vietnam, renowned for its warm-hearted people and rich cultural heritage, the “Happiness Shop” has emerged as a remarkable example of sustainable tourism. It is a place where discarded fabric scraps are transformed into meaningful stories of sustainability, and where every individual is given the opportunity to create value through their own hands.
